Embrace the uncertainty: we're all here for the first time
A gentle reminder that nobody has done life before.

I wrote this post just to remind you that every single person on this planet is here for the first time. Those around you might seem to always have everything figured out, but the truth is we all have our moments of confusion. Don’t beat yourself up because you don’t have it together all the time. If you’re in this situation, here are some things you can do to get rid of that constant feeling.
Make mistakes - lots of them
If I were to put this another way, I would say ‘fail early’. If you’re still young, you’ve got a huge advantage - time. Leverage the time you have to try out the ideas that come to your mind, and if you succeed, great. If you don’t, you’ll learn what not to do next time.
It is important to seek out expert advice and constructive criticism, but be careful of the dissenting voices of people who have never ventured to try anything in their lives, but know what everyone else is doing wrong.
If you keep trying, something eventually works out, and you realise that it’s not always about having it all figured out, but taking action even in the midst of uncertainty and learning along the way.
Design the life you want
In the middle of last year, it really hit me that I did not have to live the life that people have predicted or drawn out for me. When you do something or live a certain way for a long time, those around you form a mental picture of your expected future, and we often subconsciously keep walking along that already apparent path.
Once in a while you might feel that you could be more or something else entirely, but a strong fear creeps up, reminding you that this is all you’ve ever known and it is what people would expect of you. Well, I want you to know that your life is in your hands.
“If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself.”
— Rick Riordan
Both well-meaning and ill-intentioned people will try to remind you of the limits of possibility but bear in mind that at the end of the day, you are the one who sets the limits on what is attainable in this lifetime. So take your time to imagine the life you sincerely want.
I am often afraid to admit to myself that I want something because that admittance might increase the pain of not getting it. In reality, though, hardly anything will come to you unless you truly admit to yourself that you want it. When you imagine that life, go out and fight for it!
“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make
— Les Brown
Do Something Meaningful!
I understand that a lot of us are actively seeking out our life’s purpose. Most people expect it to be a single career or activity that will constitute the essence of their lives. Although this is sometimes the case, chances are high that if you sit around and wait for purpose to hit you in the head, you might never find it.
True purpose is often found by seeking to solve the small problems and eventually getting good at solving bigger problems. Avoiding problems and always choosing the easy way out will leave you feeling weak and empty. Meaningful things are hardly ever easy, but they are the best way to build ourselves to become better people, while positively influencing our environment.
“Difficult and meaningful will always bring more satisfaction than easy and meaningless.
— Maxime Legacé
I hope this post gives you the courage to live a meaningful life - a life that’s yours and not somebody else’s. Please leave a comment and share your thoughts on this topic. My best wishes now and always.
