My top 3 tips for a great 2023

INSPIRATIONAL

I can’t believe it’s January 21st already. This is probably the fastest January in history. I took some time to reflect on what happened in 2022, the lessons I learned, what I did wrong or right, and what I could have done better. As a result, I came up with some new rules for my 2023, three of which I'll be sharing with you.

Just Start.

I know I am not the only one who often falls prey to overthinking. I started some new things in 2022, like my podcast. However, there were a bunch of other things that I wanted to do but kept holding out on because I wanted to have all the pieces together. Well, it’s 2023 and I still don’t have all the pieces together.

When I began this blog, my youtube channel, and my podcast, I didn’t have it all figured out, and quite frankly, I still don’t. But that’s the beauty of life, we get to grow along the way. I want to encourage you to begin implementing your ideas as soon as possible. You learn far more by doing than you will by waiting for the perfect time. In fact, it is in the process of implementation that you realize what’s missing.

Be consistent at something

Pick an area of your life you want to improve on, find out what habit sets you on that path, and do it religiously. I struggled a lot with consistency last year, but with the help of my friends, especially my accountability partner, I managed to deliver on the majority of my goals. The most challenging aspect was content creation - it was hard to keep writing and podcasting consistently.

However, I did manage to begin a new Chinese learning routine - a mere 10 minutes per day, but I stuck with it. That simple action made me realize that taking small steps on a daily basis is far more valuable than making long strides once in a blue moon. This year, I hope I can apply that same consistency in other aspects of my life.

Give yourself a fighting chance

Have you ever disqualified yourself from a position without even applying? I have done that more times than I can remember. It’s a very weird thing to do because not trying gives you the same result as getting a rejection would. But I suppose the latter allows you to hold on to some shred of hope that you could have been accepted if you had put in enough effort. Whatever dignity you are trying to salvage is inconsequential compared to the weight of regrets you will have from missed opportunities.

Rejection is a part of life and helps us know where we need to grow. So, don’t let the fear of rejection stop you from giving your best to each application. I got access to opportunities that I previously thought were impossible simply because I asked, tried, or applied. Don’t hand yourself a rejection letter. Give yourself a fighting chance!

Bonus

If you made it this far, you’re truly amazing. I just want to remind you to live your best life, put yourself out there and try new things. Sometimes we limit ourselves because we’re scared of what people think, but as you grow older, you realize how irrelevant this is. Don’t wait till you’re older to discover this. Going with the trend will leave you empty and directionless. Live an authentic life and you will eventually find your crowd. I wish you all the best in 2023. Hugs!
